Supreme Court vs. District Court

The Texas Supreme Court is the highest appellate court in the state and monitors the legal system of Texas. It oversees the Texas courts and judicial system and serves as the highest appellate court for civil and non-criminal cases, such as domestic matters and contract disputes. On the other hand, the Montgomery County District Court is the main trial court and handles both criminal and civil trials. It has original jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases involving juveniles, alimony, custody, divorce, felonies, and misdemeanors. An important difference between these courts is that while District courts typically only serve the county where they are located, the Supreme Court serves the entire state.
